Game 1 of Houston's first-round series in the 2025 NBA playoffs will be held on Easter Sunday, April 20, inside the Rockets' home arena of Toyota Center. Information on purchasing tickets is available at the team's official website, rockets.com.

Sunday's Game 1 tipoff time has yet to be released, and future game dates in the best-of-seven series have yet to be set.

Much of the uncertainty surrounds the upcoming play-in tournament in both the Western and Eastern Conference, which could affect how lucrative certain series are for television purposes.

As the No. 2 seed in the West, the Rockets (52-30) will face the No. 7 seed, which will be determined by a Tuesday's play-in game between Golden State and Memphis (both 48-34).

Sunday's four television time slots for NBA playoff games are at 12:00 and 2:30 Central time, on ABC, and 5:30 and 8:00 p.m. on TNT. Should the Warriors defeat the Grizzlies, a Houston-Golden State matchup might have sufficient firepower to land one of the ABC slots.

Conversely, should the Grizzlies win, a matchup with a smaller-market team such as Memphis could be relegated to one of the later TNT slots. Among its national TV partners, ABC has the NBA's widest distribution.

These are the time slots for Easter Sunday.

My guess is Celtics get early game on ABC, Cavs the early TNT game.

I suspect Rockets/Warriors would get 2:30 Central on ABC, Rockets/Grizzlies 8:00 on TNT. Just a guess. pic.twitter.com/GJfG1y0Yo9

Whether it's Rockets-Warriors or Rockets-Grizzlies will also dictate game dates, tipoff times, and television networks for later in the series, as well. Under the NBA's 2-2-1-1-1 format, the series will go as follows:

  • Game 1: at Houston (Sunday, April 20, tipoff time TBD)
  • Game 2: at Houston (date and time TBD)
  • Game 3: at Golden State or Memphis (TBD)
  • Game 4: at Golden State or Memphis (TBD)
  • Game 5, if necessary: at Houston (date and time TBD)
  • Game 6, if necessary: at Golden State or Memphis (date and time TBD)
  • Game 7, if necessary: at Houston (date and time TBD)

Expect the full first-round series to be announced by the NBA late Tuesday or early Wednesday, shortly after both of the initial play-in games (determining the No. 7 seeds in both the West and East) have been decided.

Game 2 will not be held until at least Tuesday, April 22, since teams do not play games on back-to-back days in the NBA playoffs.

The Rockets hadn't previously qualified for the NBA playoffs since the 2019-20 season, and that year's postseason was held at a remote "bubble" location in Florida due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, Sunday's Game 1 will be the first playoff game to take place in Houston since May 2019, almost six years ago.
