Bravehearts 11, Vermont 6: In their 12-year history, the Bravehearts have been crowned Futures League champions four times. Worcester, which entered the playoffs as the fourth and final seed, is now one win away from competing for a fifth title. Worcester scored eight runs Monday night before the rain came and moved the game to Tuesday and held on to beat the Lake Monster in Burlington.
Jacob Malfant and Brayden Lewis scored on errors and Talen Rosborough smacked a two-run single to make it 4-0 after one. Jaylem Sepulveda extended the lead to five when he drove in Malfant with a single in the second, and James Anastasopoulos followed up with a three-run homer in the third and drove in what would be the game-winning run to make it, 8-0, Bravehearts.
The two teams will play game two Wednesday at Fitton Field.
The Lake Monsters fired back with six runs in the fourth before a rain storm forced the game to be postponed.
Aiden Cardoza took over for Vinny Fusco when the game resumed Tuesday evening. He pitched all 4⅔ innings and allowed four hits while striking out four.
The Bravehearts added it their lead when they scored three runs in the eighth. Sepulveda drove in Lewis and Alan Carpenter smacked a two-run single, plating Sepulveda and Chris Mondesir.
