Stephon Castle has now committed 20 turnovers over the first two games of the Western Conference Finals. The San Antonio Spurs guard has been tasked with the responsibility of being the lead ball-handler against the legendary Oklahoma City Thunder defense.

Considering De'Aaron Fox has not played in the series just yet, Castle's role has gotten bigger. He has done a good job with his contributions, but his turnover numbers might be too much to overcome if it persisists beyond Game 2.

Stephon Castle provides the context behind his troubling turnover numbers

Castle is only in his second year and his very first postseason run in 2026. He has been overall excellent for the Spurs in his role as a guard under head coach Mitch Johnson. He is a talented player, but this series against the Thunder has shown that he still has a lot to work on.

He is not taking care of the basketball well, as he is making some big mistakes. For the most part, he is playing against a tough Thunder defense, but he is making some blunders that are easily preventable.

After Game 1, Castle was well aware of how tough the game he played was. He even said it was the hardest game he ever played, which was evident with the 11 turnovers. In Game 2, he struggled yet again with taking care of the basketball despite him posting 25 points, five rebounds, and eight assists, along with his nine turnovers.

"I think it's more personal, on my end. Just really speeding myself up, not allowing our screeners to get hit. It's put me in a position where I have to play fast, or my screener might get offensive fouled... Some of it comes with fatigue, but at this point of the season, there is no excuse," Castle said about the turnovers he has made in the first two games.

It is good for the Spurs that Castle is addressing the issue. He knows that he has not been at his best when it comes to taking care of the ball, but that could improve when Fox is back. Castle himself knows that losing both Fox and Dylan Harper hurts his game, so having the veteran guard back will help them in a significant way.
