Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry signed a 10-year, $400 million endorsement contract with Chinese sports apparel company Li-Ning on Monday. Curry ended his almost seven-month stretch without a shoe deal. In November, Curry left Under Armour after being with the brand since 2013. But due to slow sales, strategic reorganization, and Curry’s dissatisfaction with the company’s lack of investment in his hallmark line, the NBA star decided to leave.

After months of being a sneaker free agent, he landed a massive deal with Li-Ning. On the recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Curry’s co-star sent a powerful endorsement regarding the latest signing.

“Well, number one, Li-Ning is one of the fastest growing shoe brands in the world,” Green said. “Number two, the opportunity for him to grow Curry brand globally, the market in China, life after basketball for him. This deal checks all of those boxes and I’m happy as hell for him. I think this is groundbreaking.”

“To sign a $400 million plus sneaker deal, allegedly, at 38 years old is unheard of,” he continued. “Which just lets you know the weight that the name Steph Curry carries, which lets you know that the presence that Steph Curry has, who he is, what he is, what he stands for, that they’re willing to sign this a 10-year deal.”

Stephen Curry believes in what Li-Ning can do for the Curry Brand, which is why he signed with the company. The Chinese organization has a global reach that many other brands do not.

During Stephen Curry’s stretch as a sneaker free agent, he tried various shoes from different brands. He wore the trademark shoes of NBA greats Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler when it came time to test out Li-Ning’s merchandise. ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed on “Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady” that Butler made sure that Curry received boxes of his shoes once he became a free agent.

“Two of the best shoes that he felt comfortable with. … Two of the best shoes that he loved throughout the process, D-Wade’s and Jimmy Butler’s” Charania said. “And Butler is obviously his teammate. The moment that Steph Curry was announced as a shoe free agent, people at the Warriors told me Butler made sure he got him boxes of shoes.”

Butler has been with Li-Ning since 2020 and has had a signature line since the partnership started. His reputation with the brand helped them land Stephen Curry, one of the all-time great players.
