Steelers trade Alex Highsmith to 49ers in way-too-early 2027 NFL mock draft

It's that time of the offseason when way-too-early mock drafts have become part of the norm. In this scenario, the Pittsburgh Steelers find a trade partner for standout edge rusher Alex Highsmith during the 2027 offseason in the San Francisco 49ers.

Here's a look at our three-round, Highsmith-edition mock draft, in which the Steelers made four picks within the top 100.

Round 1: DT, A'Mauri Washington (Oregon)​

The Steelers add the final puzzle piece to their defensive line rebuild in Washington, a massive 6-foot-3, 330-plus-pound d-tackle who excels in both pass rush and run defense.

Round 2: QB, Sam Leavitt (LSU)​

Pittsburgh simply can't pass on Leavitt here in the second round, positioning the talented dual-threat quarterback for a three-way quarterback battle against Will Howard and Drew Allar in 2027.

Round 3: CB, Christian Gray (Notre Dame)​

While some may scoff at the idea of adding yet another cornerback this early after the signing of Jamel Dean in free agency and the acquisition of Daylen Everette in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Gray would be too valuable an addition to pass on with the first of their two third-round picks.

Round 3 (trade): WR, Devin McCuin (Ohio State)​

In this scenario, the 49ers finished with a later draft slot than Pittsburgh, leaving the Steelers with a late-third-round pick in exchange for Highsmith. McCuin would offer the Steelers' offense a terrifyingly fast route runner to pair well with DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., and Germie Bernard.
