According to ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, new Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy is interviewing one of his former quarterbacks for the Steelers offensive coordinator vacancy. Fowler reported on Thursday that current New Orleans Saints quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien will interview for the position.
Tolzien played for the Packers and McCarthy from 2013 to 2015. He was also McCarthy's quarterbacks coach in Dallas in 2023 and 2024. Tolzien played in the NFL for seven seasons and served as a coach in the NFL in some capacity for six years. If the Steelers hire Tolzien, McCarthy will have both his offensive and defensive coordinators for the upcoming season in place.
The Saints quarterback position was a disaster last season, but as Fowler pointed out, Tolzien coached rookie Tyler Shough, who showed a ton of growth toward the end of the season. Quarterback will be a top priority for McCarthy this offseason. Tolzien was teammates with Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.
