Steelers tight end dealing with surprise injury heading into playoffs

One of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ pass catchers is dealing with a new surprise injury ahead of the Wild Card Round of the playoffs versus the Houston Texans.

Without a designation just one day prior, Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith was limited during Friday’s practice with a glute injury — a tough break for the former Pro Bowler.

But Jaylen Warren (illness) was back in full. Isaiahh Loudermilk was limited in his return to practice from an ankle injury.

Acquired by Pittsburgh via trade with the Miami Dolphins, Smith experienced a down year in 2025. Through 17 games this season, he recorded just 292 yards and three touchdowns on 47 touches.

A far cry from his stellar 2024 Pro Bowl campaign with Miami, where he caught 88 passes for 884 yards and eight touchdowns, Smith still remains one of Pittsburgh’s top weapons on offense, and his status is worth keeping a close eye on as we inch closer to Pittsburgh’s playoff matchup against Houston.
