When the Pittsburgh Steelers lost safety Miles Killebrew to free agency, they lost one of the best special teams players in the NFL. But they wasted little time in finding his replacement via free agency. According to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter the Steelers are signing former Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks running back Travis Homer.
Homer isn't being brought in to work as a running back. Pittsburgh has that covered with Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle. Homer was signed because he's one of the fiercest gunners/coverage special teamers in the league. He now joins wide receiver Ben Skowronek to form the best tandem of special teams players in the NFL.
The offseason has been a wild one for the Steelers. It started off with Mike Tomlin stepping down as head coach, followed quickly by the hiring of Mike McCarthy as his replacement. McCarthy wasted no time in rebuilding the roster and shoring up several depth charts where the team had issues last season.
