As I look at the Pittsburgh Steelers roster, I don't know if I can confidently say that I have a lot of trust in this team. Right now, the Steelers feel like a decent team, but I think they're far from good, or even great. Not that the Steelers are a bad team from top to bottom, but I feel like there's a lot they need to improve on both sides of the football.
Ultimately, much of this will come down to how Aaron Rodgers looks at his age and whether the team can find success with a head coach other than Mike Tomlin. I think Pittsburgh did a great job by hiring Mike McCarthy, but the questions about the organization are still more than fair at the moment.
We'll see how things go, but roster-wise, the Steelers have gotten some praise this offseason that I don't necessarily agree with. The latest to do so was from CBS Sports, with one writer suggesting that Pittsburgh will be a better team than it was a year ago, at least on paper.
“On both sides of the ball, the Steelers have a stronger team than they did a year ago. Pittsburgh's biggest area of improvement was at receiver with the additions of Pittman and Bernard. The duo should give DK Metcalf more room to operate while giving Rodgers three talented wideouts to throw to.
“The Steelers didn't retain Kenneth Gainwell (a favorite of Rodgers who was the team's MVP in 2025), but they were able to replace him with Dowdle, who is looking to become the first player in NFL history to have three consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons while playing for three different teams. Pittsburgh still has Jaylen Warren, who set career highs last season with 958 rushing yards and 1,291 all-purpose yards,” Bryan DeArdo of CBS wrote.
There will be plenty of time for Pittsburgh to show it can be the team it's expected to be.
There are going to be a lot of question marks about what happens from the top down in this organization after Tomlin decides to hang them up, so I'm excited to see that part, at least. Regarding the roster, I have my questions, as I've noted above, but there are still some talented players on this team, so let's see how things go.
