On Tuesday, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced the 15 modern era finalist for the 2026 class. The Pittsburgh Steelers only had wide receiver Hines Ward among the semifinalists but he failed to make the cut as a finalist in this 10th try.
To be fair, this class is absolutely loaded so despite Ward's resume, this was an uphill climb from the beginning.
Offensive tackle - Willie Anderson
Quarterback - Drew Brees
Guard - Jahri Evans
Wide receiver - Larry Fitzgerald
Running back - Frank Gore
Wide receiver - Torry Holt
Quarterback - Eli Manning
Linebacker - Luke Kuechly
Linebacker - Terrell Suggs
Kicker - Adam Vinatieri
Wide receiver - Reggie Wayne
Defensive tackle - Kevin Williams
Tight end - Jason Witten
Safety - Darren Woodson
Guard - Marshall Yanda
It feels like that, despite the numbers Ward put up in his career, there is a relatively long list of other receivers who need to get in before him, including Fitzgerald, Holt, and Wayne, who are finalists this year. Ward finished his career with 217 games played, 1,000 receptions, 12,083 receiving yards and 85 receiving touchdowns.
