There may be more to the recent Pittsburgh Steelers trade rumors than meets the eye, as one insider indicated another summer blockbuster trade could be on the horizon.
In a recent Steelers chat on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, insider Gerry Dulac was asked whether the Steelers could make a trade similar to the one they made in June 2025 involving Minkah Fitzpatrick, this time with Alex Highsmith in order to sign Nick Herbig to a new deal. The reader also asked if sending T.J. Watt off in 2027 was more likely.
"Of course they could," Dulac wrote. "And maybe that is something they are already thinking."
Back in April, a report surfaced that indicated the Steelers were expected to field trade offers on Highsmith if teams called.
Considering that Herbig seems to have more upside as a pass rusher and is due a contract extension, trading Highsmith to secure some much-needed 2027 NFL Draft capital may be the play Pittsburgh needs to make.
