According to Pittsburgh Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, the Steelers are hiring former Steelers cornerback Jason Simmons as a defensive backfield coach. Simmons coached special teams and defensive backs for eight seasons under Mike McCarthy with the Green Bay Packers.

Simmons played 10 seasons in the NFL, the first four of those with the Steelers. Simmons also played six seasons with the Houston Texans and spent most of his career as a reserve. Most recently, Simmons was the defensive pass game coordinator for the Washington Commanders in 2024 and 2024 and before that held the same role with the Las Vegas Raiders for two seasons and the Carolina Panthers for two as well.

McCarthy has been putting his new coaching staff together in a hurry. He also hired defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and special teams coordinator Danny Crossman. We expect him to add Scott Tolzien as the new offensive coordinator this week to finish off the coordinator hirings.
