The Pittsburgh Steelers have begun the search for their next head coach after Mike Tomlin stepped down from the position after 19 years — with our head coach scouting reports giving fans a better idea of which candidates to look out for.
Taking a look at head coach record, coaching background, accolades, and potential fit with the Steelers, here’s the scouting report for recently fired Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott.
In 2024, McDermott became the fifth head coach in NFL history to record five straight seasons with 11 wins or more, earning The Greasy Neale Award, presented to the league’s most outstanding head coach. Since 2020, the Bills have fielded a top-five offense in five seasons and a top-10 defense in four seasons under his leadership. Additionally, McDermott’s .662 win percentage ranks as the third-highest among active head coaches.
McDermott’s 27 years of NFL-level coaching experience, sharp defensive mind, and proven track record of success position him as arguably the greatest head-coach fit the Steelers have seen so far. If Pittsburgh wants a coach who’ll keep them competitive during a potential rebuild, McDermott is the man for the job.
