There’s a new regime in the Pittsburgh Steelers, and head coach Mike McCarthy will no doubt be looking to shore up the offensive line this offseason.

At left guard, the Steelers are on the verge of losing veteran Isaac Seumalo, who's expected to test free agency next week. The Chargers, however, just released offensive guard Mekhi Becton, who could be a cheap replacement if Seumalo ultimately leaves Pittsburgh.

Stats (Per PFF)

  • 2020 (offensive tackle): 691 snaps played, 7 sacks allowed, 7 penalties
  • 2021 (offensive tackle): N/A
  • 2022 (offensive tackle): N/A
  • 2023 (offensive tackle): 985 snaps played, 12 sacks allowed, 18 penalties
  • 2024 (offensive guard): 903 snaps played, 3 sacks allowed, 4 penalties
  • 2025 (offensive guard): 734 snaps played, 3 sacks allowed, 5 penalties

Fit with Steelers offense

Becton might've had his fair share of struggles in 2025, but it's fair to place some of the blame on the Chargers' entire offensive line as a whole. In Pittsburgh, he'd be playing next to some of the best up-and-coming offensive linemen, potentially forming the league's best interior offensive line with center Zach Frazier and right guard Mason McCormick.

Giving the Steelers a cheap, low-risk, high-reward option at left guard, Becton's best shot at redemption as a starting-caliber offensive lineman may very well run through Pittsburgh. Oh, and having previously played with Aaron Rodgers doesn't hurt.

Contract prediction

After his abrupt departure from Los Angeles, we at Steelers Wire project Becton to sign a one-year, prove-it deal worth around $5 million.
