An assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers has been fired for "workplace misconduct" less than one year after joining the team, according to a report from ESPN.
A team source told Adam Schefter that the Steelers fired senior special teams assistant Derius Swinton II for a "violation of club policy," the outlet said on Friday, May 29.
ESPN reported that the Steelers declined to specify what Swinton was accused of violating, but a team source reportedly cited "workplace misconduct" as the cause for Swinton's dismissal.

Swinton was hired in February to join head coach Mike McMarthy's staff, per ESPN. Before that, he worked for the Las Vegas Raiders from 2023 through 2025 and spent a single season with the Los Angeles Chargers as special teams coordinator.
He's also worked as an assistant for the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs.
On May 18, the Steelers signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal worth up to $25 million for his second season with the team. He previously played two years with the New York Jets and 17 with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers shared the news during a press conference at the Steelers' practice facility, where he also announced the next season will be his final in the NFL.

After he was asked if this would be his final season, Rodgers said simply, "Yes, this is it."
The deal will reunite Rodgers with McCarthy, his former coach, for another season. McCarthy, who worked with Rodgers in Green Bay for 13 seasons, was hired by the Steelers after longtime coach Mike Tomlin stepped down following 19 years at the helm.
