One of the biggest tight ends in NFL history, Darnell Washington of the Pittsburgh Steelers, is apparently experimenting with a position change at training camp. And no, it isn't offensive tackle.
On Day 5 of training camp practice, the Steelers were testing the waters with Washington at fullback. Pittsburgh's offense appeared to be in 11 personnel until Washington ultimately motioned into the backfield, which would terrify opposing defenses mid-game.
Drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Washington experienced a breakout year of sorts in 2025, catching 31 passes for 364 yards and one touchdown.
Washington, already one of the league's best blocking tight ends, has been the subject of speculation that he could eventually switch to offensive tackle. But the Steelers apparently have other plans, as fullback may be the better position to make use of his blocking prowess.
