It's safe to say T.J. Watt's contract is one of the most polarizing in Pittsburgh Steelers history. But it doesn't end there, as Watt recently cracked a top-10 list of the worst NFL contracts ahead of the 2026 season.
According to Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon, Watt's three-year, $123 million contract was ranked the fifth worst in the NFL given his recent regression.
"The Problem: The 31-year-old's sack numbers have plummeted from 19 in 2023 to 11.5 in 2024 to seven in 2025," Gagnon wrote. "This was his first relatively full non-All-Pro season since 2018, indicating that a decline is well underway. … Even if the Steelers move on after the 2027 campaign, Watt will have cost the team $94 million in salary and dead-cap charges for just two seasons of work."
Watt didn't have the performance many were hoping for in 2025, recording just 10 tackles for loss, 55 combined tackles, and seven sacks in 14 games.
While the Steelers could keep their edge rusher unit intact through the 2026 season, Watt's abysmal contract leaves much to be desired.
