One NFL trade partner has emerged for the Pittsburgh Steelers, none other than the cornerback-needy Detroit Lions.
According to Penn Live's Nick Farabaugh, the Steelers could look to trade either Asante Samuel Jr. or Brandin Echols to the Lions. 93.7 The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi reported Farabaugh's comments via X.
Samuel, who underwent spinal fusion surgery in April 2025, signed with the Steelers after he was cleared for football activities in November. He made his Pittsburgh debut in December and finished the season with one interception, one pass defended, and 10 combined tackles.
Echols was one of the bright spots on Pittsburgh's defense last season. Showing off his versatility to play both outside and in the slot, Echols finished the season with two interceptions, six passes defended, and 48 combined tackles.
While either Echols or Samuel could be dealt, our money is on the latter being traded to the Lions. Echols' versatility almost guarantees him a spot on the Steelers' roster in 2026, while Samuel could see his role reduced further if rookie Daylen Everette stands out in training camp.
