Mikko Rantanen suffered a lower-body injury while playing for Finland at the Olympics. The Stars addressed the injury right after the break, saying they would monitor his progress upon his return to the US. Earlier this week, updates suggested that Rantanen will likely be out for more than 2 weeks.

Despite losing their best player to injury, the Dallas Stars are surging at the right time of the season.

Dallas sits second in the Central Division with a 38-14 record, the second-best mark in the entire Western Conference. Only the Colorado Avalanche (41-10) stands ahead of them in the division, and the Stars have built a comfortable cushion over the third-place Minnesota Wild (36-16).

“You don’t want to see anybody go down, especially a guy like that,” said defenseman Miro Heiskanen per NHL.com, who plays with Rantanen on the Dallas Stars. “He’s a huge part of this team and a huge part of the Dallas Stars. It’s not fun to see that, but at the same time we have to focus on the game and we have a lot of great players here and we just stayed together and tried to do our best.”

The Stars take on the Colorado Avalanche on Friday from American Airlines Center at 7 pm.
