Rick Pitino has put St. John’s basketball back on the national map in just two seasons at the helm. This past year, he led the Red Storm to their first Big East regular season and tournament titles since 2000, as well as their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019.

Unfortunately for the No. 2-seeded Jonnies, they were upset in the second round of the Tournament by No. 10-seed Arkansas.

He's already landed seven transfer portal commitments: Milligan's Handje Tamba, Cincinnati's Dillon Mitchell, Idaho State's Dylan Darling, North Carolina's Ian Jackson, Stanford's Oziyah Sellers, Arizona State's Joson Sanon and Providence's Bryce Hopkins.

"We greatly appreciate Van Macon's contributions to St. John's Basketball and wish him the best in his future endeavors," Pitino said.

Macon has "deep roots in New York City" and is well-respected around the area.
