The fallout from the San Antonio Spurs NBA Finals defeat continues, and now De’Aaron Fox is at the center of another major storyline. The Spurs appeared to be in control of Game 4 before one of the most stunning collapses in NBA Finals history allowed the New York Knicks to erase a massive deficit and seize control of the series. While there was plenty of blame to go around, much of the attention quickly shifted toward Fox following a costly late-game mistake.

With the clock winding down and San Antonio desperately trying to protect its lead, Fox’s decision-making during a crucial possession became a major talking point. The sequence cost the Spurs valuable seconds and likely prevented them from getting to the free-throw line in a situation where every possession mattered. Now, after this recent unfollow report, things look to have gone from bad to worse for Fox and his relationship with San Antonio.

As expected, social media erupted almost immediately after the loss. Fans and analysts dissected the final minutes of the game, with many pointing directly at Fox’s late-game error as one of the turning points that helped New York complete the comeback. The criticism intensified as the Spurs eventually went on to lose the series, ending their championship hopes.

Fox later addressed the criticism, but his response generated even more discussion. Rather than quieting the conversation, many fans felt his comments failed to fully acknowledge his role in the loss. Supporters defended the star guard, arguing that basketball games are never decided by a single play, while critics believed he should have taken more accountability.

Social Media Move Raises Questions

Now another development has added fuel to the speculation. According Full Court Pass on X, Fox has unfollowed the Spurs on Instagram in the days following the Finals loss.

While social media activity can sometimes be overanalyzed, NBA fans know that unfollowing a team has often preceded trades, free-agent departures, or fractured relationships between players and organizations. That doesn’t automatically mean Fox is looking for a way out of San Antonio, but the timing is certainly noteworthy.

More Questions Than Answers

At this point, there is no confirmed report that Fox has requested a trade or that the Spurs are considering moving him. Still, the combination of the Finals disappointment, the criticism surrounding his performance, and now the Instagram unfollow has created plenty of speculation.

Whether it ultimately means something significant or proves to be nothing more than a coincidence remains to be seen. For now, however, it is yet another storyline surrounding a Spurs team that is still searching for answers after watching a championship slip through its fingers.
