The San Antonio Spurs accomplished more than many expected this season.

Although San Antonio ultimately came up short, an NBA Finals appearance with a relatively inexperienced team is nothing to balk at. Will the fact that the Spurs possessed a commanding lead against the New York Knicks in every single outing haunt them for the next few weeks?

Absolutely, as it’s fair to state that the Spurs could have swept New York if they had limited their mistakes in crunch time. Instead, New York eliminated San Antonio in five games, prompting star center Victor Wembanyama to send a scary message to the NBA after the Spurs’ crushing loss in the final loss of the postseason.

"What I'm pissed about is that there are probably 100 games before we can be back in The Finals," Wembanyama said during his final post-game press conference of the season. “I don't know how to say it in English, but I will hold that inside of me and have to execute for 100 games."

A highly motivated Wemby is a frightening Wemby, as the former No. 1 pick has already established himself as one of the best centers in the league and still has plenty of room to grow as a generational 22-year-old unicorn.

Wembanyama averaged 24.0 points, 10.7 points, 3.5 blocks, and 2.7 assists per game in the playoffs, shooting 49.1% from the field and 35.2% from three-point land.

Moving forward, the 7-foot-4 big man should prioritize improving his on-the-move ball-handling, his ability to absorb upper-body contact, and adding a go-to low-post move to his arsenal, rather than relying heavily on gazelle-like strides and superhuman length.

It’s safe to say Wembanyama will be prepared to do whatever it takes not only to help the Spurs return to the NBA Finals in 2026-27, but also to finish the season as the last team standing.
