NEW YORK – Giancarlo Stanton had expected to return this week, jubilantly stepping back into the Yankees’ Aaron Judge-less lineup.

That plan ended during a baserunning exercise last week.

At Yankee Stadium late Tuesday night, Stanton said this latest injury to his right calf “felt similar’’ to the strain he originally suffered during an April 24 game at Houston.

And the slugging DH wasn’t sure as to the degree of this setback; he’s only scheduled for light activity and will be re-evaluated after this week.

Without Judge, Stanton or even Jasson Dominguez – who had a tooth extracted Tuesday morning – the Yankees rapped out 16 hits in a 12-2 win against the White Sox.

Chicago starter Davis Martin had yielded only three homers in his first 13 starts, but he gave up three homers in 3.1 innings Tuesday – the first clubbed by rookie Spencer Jones.

“Just more good at-bats by him,’’ manager Aaron Boone said of Jones’ night, which included two walks – one with the bases loaded. “And we need it.’’

Jones and Dominguez will get some run now, with Stanton maybe weeks away, Judge (rib fracture) possibly two months away and center fielder Trent Grisham also on the injured list.

Injured on the bases Friday at Toronto, Grisham was diagnosed with a “moderate’’ right hamstring strain, per manager Aaron Boone, but “it’ll be a little bit of time’’ before Grisham is back.

And that’s why makes this an interesting period for Jones, the 6-foot-7 lefty slugger who started in center field Tuesday night and connected on his first Bronx home run.

“It was special,’’ Jones said of his second MLB home run, a clout to right off the right-handed Martin, whose ERA jumped from 2.41 to 3.31 inside of four innings.

Ben Rice had a big at-bat to key a four-run third inning, reversing a third strike via ABS challenge and drawing a walk before Cody Bellinger’s two-run single.

Both Rice (20th HR) and Paul Goldschmidt (10th HR, matching his 2025 total) hit two-run shots off Martin in a six-run fourth, backing Gerrit Cole’s six-inning effort.

Jones is now batting .348 (8-for-23) with a 1.096 OPS in his last seven starts – all but one of them during this latest tour, after his call-up when Judge hit the IL on June 5.

“First time around it’s so much of a new experience,’’ said Jones, who batted .167 (4-for-24) with zero extra-base hits during his first 10-game tour in May.

“Until you’re in there…expectation and reality don’t always match up,’’ Jones said. “That first go at it was just a lot of new information, a lot of new things.’’

But having “a couple weeks just to meditate on the things that were going on’’ while back at Triple-A Scranton, Jones said he was able to focus on some essential on-field and mental aspects that would prepare him for the next opportunity.’’

Mostly, it’s “just the confidence that I belong and I’m a major league player,’’ said Jones, citing the support he’s received from the Yankees’ veterans.

“He looked like he was real comfortable against a really good pitcher there,’’ Boone said of Jones’ at-bats against Martin. Plus, “you see what happens when he’s able to impact the ball.’’

Gerrit Cole's artistic take

In his fifth start back from Tommy John surgery rehab, Gerrit Cole mostly cruised through six innings in a blowout win.

“Continue to build stamina, better command…continue working on my reads,’’ Cole said of what he’s got to refine from here. “This stretch has been a little bit hit or miss. Probably some improvement to be made there.’’

Before hitting some command turbulence in the sixth, Cole had an efficient run after Andrew Benintendi’s first-inning, solo homer on a two-strike pitch.

“I feel like it’s kind of a blank canvas,’’ Cole said of this early comeback period. “Just laying down some base layer paint and we’ll see what kind of Bob Ross concoction comes up.’’

Cole’s next start is scheduled for Sunday afternoon against the Cincinnati Reds.
