Another reserve Michigan State football player has entered the transfer portal.

Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Mason Nickel has reportedly entered the transfer portal, according to Ryan O'Bleness of Rivals. Nickel is a walk-on and is part of a flurry of non-scholarship Spartans that have entered the portal over the past few days.

Nickel joined Michigan State ahead of the 2024 season, but never saw any action in his lone season with the Spartans.

Nickel is from Midland, Mich. and was a three-time All-Saginaw Valley League selection at Dow High. He elected to a be a preferred walk-on at Michigan State over offers from Division II programs, such as Ferris State, Saginaw Valley State and Michigan Tech.

The spring transfer portal window is open through Friday. Michigan State has seen primarily reserve players enter the transfer portal this spring, with the lone notable players leaving being defensive back Dillon Tatum and edge rusher Anthony Jones.

Two more Michigan State walk-on players are in the transfer portal:

Redshirt freshman DT Mason Nickel and redshirt sophomore tight end Reeves Taylor.

MSU has had several walk-ons enter the transfer portal since the spring window opened. Here is why:https://t.co/oIDuQfu17G
