Former UCF center Moustapha Thiam has transferred to Cincinnati, showcasing the highly competitive landscape of college athletics.

Thiam revealed his intentions to The Athletic on Monday, although the Sentinel and various other media outlets had previously reported news of his transfer. According to a source, he’s expected to receive a deal in the $2 million range.

“I just want to take a moment to thank UCF for everything. From the coaching staff to my teammates and all the people behind the scenes who supported me — I’m truley grateful,” Thiam said in a post on Instagram on Monday. “This program believed in me, challenged me and helped me grow in ways I’ll never forget.

“To Knight Nation, thank you for the energy, the support and for making Orlando feel like home. UCF will always be a part of my journey and I’ll always have love for this place.”

The 7-foot-2, 235-pound Thiam finished his only season with the Knights, averaging 10.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in 34 games. His 88 blocks were the second-most in program history behind Tacko Fall (94).

His departure didn’t come without controversy as reports began circulating that former UCF assistant coach Mamadou N’Diaye would be joining him. N’Diaye is expected to join Wes Miller’s coaching staff in Cincinnati this offseason.

Thiam becomes the 11th player to enter the portal since the transfer window opened March 24, joining guards Keyshawn Hall, Jordan Ivy-Curry, Jaylin Sellers, Mikey Williams, Tyler Hendricks, Nils Machowski, Cameron Simpson, Dior Johnson and forwards JJ Taylor and Rokas Jocius.

With the departures of seniors Darius Johnson, Dallan Coleman and Benny Williams, UCF been forced to build its 2025-26 roster practically from scratch.

The Knights have added seven transfers, including guards Riley Kugel, Themus Fulks, George Beale Jr., forwards Jordan Burks, Jamichael Stillwell and centers Jeremy Fourmena and John Bol.
