Soulé Back to Training, Likely to Return for Inter Match

Like many of Roma’s young players last season, Matías Soulé’s development was delayed by the club’s managerial turnover. Playing for three managers in one season isn’t ideal for any footballer, especially a U-23 still trying to find their footing as a professional. So when Gian Piero Gasperini was hired as Roma’s new manager last summer, many pointed to Soulé as the biggest beneficiary of Gasperini’s attack-first philosophy.

With seven goals and five assists in all competitions in approximately 2,200 minutes, Soulé was Roma’s most dangerous player during the first half of the season. Without Soulé’s creativity, bravado, and ability to threaten the goal at a moment’s notice, Roma’s attack has relied heavily on Donyell Malen. While the Dutch forward has taken Serie A by storm since arriving in January, carrying the entire attack on his shoulders is starting to weigh on him.

But there is help on the way.


As you can see in the clip above, Soulé has returned to full training and is expected to be available for Roma’s first match after the international break, an away fixture against league-leading Inter Milan. And lord knows, they’ll need all the help they can get in that match.

Either way, if Roma has a chance to overcome Juventus and Como in the race for fourth place, a healthy Soulé may be the key to climbinging that mountain.
