I don't understand why Navarre was so scorned.

"If you think Navarre will be rattled Sunday, understand that he wears an emotional coat of armor from the beating he took being not only the most prolific passer in Michigan history but also the most scorned.

"His father, Larry, never attended games in a Navarre jersey and often checked into hotels under a pseudonym. John often received hundreds of e-mails after games suggesting he transfer or worse."

Because he lost to Ohio his Sophmore and Junior year. I guess the fans don't take kindly to that. He beat them as a senior and everybody finally gave him the respect he deserved.

Bad timing, he came on the heels of Griese, Brady and Henson. Henson left early, enter Navarre as a redshirt soph who played briefly as a freshman when Henson was hurt. Michigan's offense was far below normal standards, he took the blame being the QB.

he also had a bad habit of fumbling, and playing poorly in big games.

Compare it to Texas where Chris Simms, now Vince Young, and Mack Brown are villified because they can't beat Oklahoma. Mack Brown is 10-1 for the 2nd year in a row but may get fired because they want to beat OU and he can't.

The expectations at Michigan were very high, Navarre started before he was really ready.

Thanks - I appreciate that.

I went to a tiny college without a football team, so I never really got into it. It just seemed so strange he could have done so well and been treated like that.

Here's hoping he's about to become the most popular guy in town.

It's the same concept as those who blamed Josh for our entire offense struggling when shortly everyone will see that no matter who we put in there it dosen't go like it's designed to go because our WR don't get open deep very often.

The other way of looking at it is if you remember the guy on the South American soccer team who scored a goal for the wrong team in the World Cup. He was killed about a week later.

That's how serious some take Michigan football.

I agree that exptations at Michigan were high, and being a four-year starter, Navarre's one or two conference losses per season became very conspicuous. Case in point: 2002 vs. Ohio State, where Navarre could not get the Wolverines into the end zone. They took a 9-7 halftime lead on field goals, but after falling behind 14-7, Navarre ended his last two drives with fumble lost and an interception. Michigan finished the game with 10 more first downs and 125 more passing yards than Ohio State, but the Buckeyes got the victory and went on to win the National title. That makes for long memories in Ann Arbor.

That's why he was hated, in short he lost 2 games to Ohio State. in His career he threw 6 picks and 4 Tds against them, and lost 5 fumbles. You do that against your arch rival and lose, the fans are going to blame you.

His first start against Ohio State he went 21-47 with 4 picks and 2 lost fumbles, they lost 26-20 despite 15 catches and 2 TD's by ex Card Marquise Walker, most after the game was 23-0 Ohio State at the half.

Next year they lost 14-9, Navarre played poorly again.

FYI Michigan's website has an amazing amount of stats available and easy to search.

I should have said thanks for nothing because your description of Navarre ( the part I quoted) spells doom and gloom for Sunday.

Of course what people fail to realize is that Ohio State made every team look sick offensively those years. But that's how it goes.People love Griese and he was not a good college QB,just average, but he got a fluke win at OSU when Shawn Springs slipped and the Michigan WR went about 70 yards for their only TD to win.Navarre was a better QB in college than Griese.

I have made my predictions on what the guy will do. I don't even care if I am proved wrong I hope I am I would love to see someone just knock our socks off at QB that would be awesome.

It would be worth eating crow for about 10 years on it or more but you know what, I'm not stocking up on crow sauce or even pricing it yet.

Look, Eli Manning was the first pick in the draft and he's struggling, it's unrealistic to expect a 7th rounder with nowhere near the preparation Manning had, to go out and play well on this team right away.

John is a very bright kid, in 2 years he may actually be challenging to start somewhere, but I think it's almost inevitable he'll struggle Sunday.

I didn't think Miami's offense could be stopped by anyone until the NC game.
