Wisconsin men's hockey keeps benefiting from a pipeline that reaches well beyond Madison, and Brent Solomon is the latest example.
USA Hockey invited the incoming Badgers freshman forward to the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, giving him a high-end summer platform before he even plays a college game.
The event runs July 26 through Aug. 1 in Windsor, Ontario, and the Americans will use it as an evaluation step toward the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship. Solomon is one of 47 skaters invited and one of 26 forwards in the pool, which tells you how competitive the roster race already is.
Solomon arrives with a legitimate resume. The Detroit Red Wings selected him in the fourth round of the 2025 NHL draft, and he is spending part of the summer at Red Wings development camp. Last season at Sioux Falls in the USHL, he scored 24 goals and finished with 53 points in 54 games, with nine of those goals coming on the power play.
That kind of production is why this invitation matters. Wisconsin is not just adding a freshman who needs time to grow. It is bringing in a player who already has NHL draft value, USA Hockey exposure, and a recent scoring record that says he can drive play at speed.
The bigger picture is even better for the Badgers. Wisconsin has had a player in the World Junior Championship for 10 straight years, and 63 Badgers all-time have reached the event.
Solomon does not have to make the final team for this summer invite to matter. The fact that he is in the conversation before the season starts is another sign that the Wisconsin forward room is getting players who belong in national competition.
