It’s a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup — and with two of the best pitchers in the state facing off — runs figure to be at a premium when Logansport travels to Yorktown for a Class 3A regional game tonight.

The contest will be held at the Yorktown Sports Complex located at 200 S County Road 600 W in Yorktown. The game will be broadcast locally on WSAL 1230 AM/94.9 FM. First pitch is at 6 p.m.

Yorktown (25-2) was ranked No. 1 and Logansport (26-1) was ranked No. 2 in the final coaches poll. The MaxPreps Computer Rankings has Logansport as the No. 2 team behind New Palestine, while Yorktown is rated as the No. 3 team in Class 3A. Statewide regardless of class size, Logansport is ranked No. 6 and Yorktown is ranked No. 10 on MaxPreps.

Yorktown scores 9.7 runs per game while Logansport scores 8.3 runs per contest. Neither team will be expected to reach those totals considering the elite pitching they will be facing tonight.

Logansport junior right-hander Brooklynn Hagerty, a Texas recruit, is 16-0 with a 0.71 ERA. She has 253 strikeouts while allowing 35 hits, nine walks and 16 hit batters in 119 innings pitched.

Yorktown counters with sophomore right-hander Olivia Jones, who is 20-2 with a 0.61 ERA. She has 242 strikeouts while allowing 56 hits, 30 walks and two hit batters in 115.1 innings. Her only losses are a 3-0 loss to Westfield and a 3-2 loss to Hamilton Southeastern.

Both pitchers average 2.1 strikeouts per inning.

While the pitching is top-notch, both teams have the ability to put crooked numbers up on the scoreboard.

Jones is also one of the Tigers’ top hitters. She is hitting .434 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs. They have a dangerous lineup one through nine as they’ve hit .380 collectively as a team.

The Berries have also scored a lot of runs all season. Their tournament lineup thus far has been senior shortstop Aracyn Good (.337, 1 HR, 31 R) batting leadoff, followed by senior center fielder Adrienne Scott (.404, 4 HR, 34 R), sophomore third baseman Gracie Risley (.455, 6 HRs, 24 RBIs), Hagerty (.392, 12 HRs, 46 RBIs), junior catcher Bella Nicoles (.324, 11 2Bs, 10 RBIs), junior second baseman Kate Spradling (.338, 17 R), junior first baseman Evie Kitchel (.466, 1 HR, 20 RBIs), senior designated player Tatianna Jones (.325, 11 RBIs) and senior left fielder Teagan Wolf (.207, 12 R). Junior Amilia Zaragoza is the starting right fielder.

Logansport has historically been a Class 4A school but moved to Class 3A last year due to changes in the IHSAA enrollment rules. The Berries won a Class 4A sectional title years ago and have won eight sectional titles overall. The Berries have never won a regional title. They finished one game short of the State Finals in their first season in 1988.

Yorktown is located just west of Muncie, an old NCC rival town of the Berries. Yorktown has won 11 sectional titles, all in Class 3A and all since 2009, including five in a row. Yorktown has won six regional titles, the last coming in 2023. Yorktown has won two semi-state titles in 2013 and 2019, finishing state runner-up both years.

The winner of tonight’s game advances to Saturday’s four-team Twin Lakes Semi-State.
