Six boys track and field athletes and one relay team from East Central Indiana are heading to state.

The IHSAA boys track and field postseason continued with regionals across the state on Thursday, May 28. Two area high jumpers won regional titles — a New Castle Trojan at Greenfield-Central and a Wapahani Raider at Carroll (Fort Wayne) — while a Muncie Central Bearcat, a Yorktown Tiger and another Wapahani Raider placed in the top three of their respective events to earn a state finals qualification. Yorktown also had a relay team place in the top three, while a Winchester Golden Falcon beat a state standard time to punch his ticket to state.

The IHSAA boys track and field state finals will be Saturday, June 6, at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Jackson Foster, Muncie Central

Muncie Central junior Jackson Foster set a new personal record in the discus throw with a distance of 158-1 feet. Foster's new PR was good for a third-place finish at the Carroll regional.

Grady Mahaffey, Wapahani

Wapahani senior Grady Mahaffey brought home the high jump title from the Carroll regional with a personal record height of 6-6 feet, which also places him inside the top-10 in the state for the event.

Preston McCorkhill will join him there after setting a new personal best and Wapahani school record in the 400-meter dash at 48.46 seconds — one of the top-10 fastest 400 times in the state and good for a second-place finish at the Carroll regional.

Wyatt Turner, Yorktown

Yorktown junior Wyatt Turner will return to the state finals in the 1,600-meter run after placing second in the Carroll regional for the second year in a row. He finished in 4:21.65.

Yorktown 4x800 relay team
