Texas A&M's visit to the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn., was short-lived, as the red-hot Oklahoma Sooners handed the Aggies an 83-63 loss at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday night.
While it wasn't the best performance from the Maroon and White this season, especially in rebounding and 3-point shooting, all hope is not lost. Texas A&M will still be competing in March Madness and will await Selection Sunday to learn its first-round destination. If the Aggies made a run in the league tournament, the opportunity to secure the No. 8 or No. 9 seed in the postseason was in reach. However, the loss likely hands Texas A&M the No. 10 seed.
Graduate forward Rashaun Agee and senior guard Rylan Griffen tied for the team-best 13 points in the loss. Pop Isaacs also recorded 12 points, including four made 3-pointers. When the final buzzer sounded at Bridgestone Arena, the glaring problem was a lack of effort on the glass and inconsistent shooting.
With the style of basketball Bucky McMillan teaches his squad, down nights shooting are inevitable, but the Aggies were out-rebounded 48-33 and turned the ball over 10 times against the Sooners. Those mistakes must be cleaned up moving forward, if the Maroon and White want to make a run in March.
