Kendall Wells is having a season for the ages. With the Sooners trailing 2-1 at the top of the fifth, Wells launched the 2-2 offering deep over the left field wall to give the Sooners the lead. Oklahoma would make it count with the 4-3 win to secure the series against the Longhorns.
Wells 31st home run broke the freshman single-season home run record with a lot of softball to be played in 2026.
Her home run came amidst a mini-slump against the Longhorns. Prior to the record-setting long ball, Wells was 0-5 with four strikeouts in the series. Coming through in the clutch like she did is just another reminder of the excellence Wells displays when she's at the plate.
With the freshman record set, Wells can set her eyes on the single-season home run record of 37 set by Laura Espinoza. And with 12 games left in the regular season and potentially many more in the postseason, Wells will have ample opportunity to break another record in the coming weeks.
After her record-setting 37th home run that propelled Oklahoma to the series win over Texas, here's how social media reacted.

Almost Poetic
Having a record set against Texas is just perfection for a Sooner.
Ngl. That’s baller.

Incredible
Oklahoma softball phenom Kendall Wells just broke the NCAA freshman record for home runs (31) in a season.
There are still nearly two months left in the season.
