Baby Bobby's parents decided to change his name after Coventry City gained promotion [Peter]

A Coventry City supporter is changing his newborn son's name to Bobby in honour of defender Bobby Thomas, after his dramatic late equaliser secured the Sky Blues' return to the Premier League after 25 years.

Peter said his nine-week-old baby was originally registered as Jack on Friday morning.

But just hours later, Coventry's season reached a defining moment when Thomas powered home a header six minutes from time.

Inspired by the emotional outcome of the match against Blackburn Rovers, baby Jack's parents Peter and Sarah had a change of heart and decided to rename him Bobby.

"Maybe it was him climbing in the air to get that goal that did it, but we just decided that it was going to be Bobby," Peter said. "It was really surreal."

The couple plan to complete the formal paperwork to change his name to Bobby Peter James.

The baby, already dressed in blue, is set to grow up with a story few can match.

"We'll show him that header," Peter said. "It's one of those days that you don't think's real - a 25-year wait."

He added: "If Jack [Rudoni] scores the next home game on Tuesday, what am I going to do?"
