PHILADELPHIA -- Most of the players on the Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to take advantage of some much-needed downtime in the midst of another 82-game grind. The Sixers are sitting at 30-24 and will have 28 games left after the All-Star break to solidify playoff positioning down the stretch.
However, rookie VJ Edgecombe has an obligation to fulfill first. The No. 3 overall pick is headed to Los Angeles to compete in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night for Team Vince. He's averaging 14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while helping a contending team make a leap in the 2025-26 season.
As he looks ahead to the night at Intuit Dome, the rookie gave his thoughts on the night.
"I’m super excited," Edgecombe said on Wednesday. "It’s a blessing to be on that stage in LA. So, I’m looking forward to it."
Edgecombe will be in LA with his close friend Tyrese Maxey, and Trendon Watford is making the trip to the West Coast as well. It will be good for him to be around his teammates during this time.
"Showing love," Edgecombe explained. "It’s love between all three of us all the time. Credit to them. Credit to TWatt for spending his break with us, and obviously Tyrese gotta be there, but I’m excited. I’m excited to see Tyrese in the 3-point contest and the All-Star game."
After the game, Edgecombe plans to spend time with family. It's well deserved for him after a job well done thus far in his first go-around in the NBA.
"Spend time with my family, to be honest!" Edgecombe beamed. "And competing and then my family. I get to see my family."
Edgecombe and the Sixers will get back at it on Feb. 19 when they take on the Atlanta Hawks after the break.
