Sixers' Tyrese Maxey puts league on notice with recent post originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Tyrese Maxey has been a cornerstone in the Philadelphia 76ers’ starting lineup over the course of his six-year career at the XFinity Mobile Arena. This last season proved to be his best yet, posting career highs in points (28.3) and assists (6.6) per game, which was part of the reason that he was named to his second-ever All-Star game, with his appearance being the first of his tenure as a starter.
The NBA would notice this level of production on Sunday evening, as the 25-year-old would be named to the All-NBA Third team, the first All-NBA nod of his career thus far. While this may be a highlight for some players in the association, it appears that it a source of inspiration for Maxey.
Maxey’s message to the league
On Monday afternoon, the 25-year-old would repost the Sixers’ post of his highlights onto his Instagram story, with a caption reading “Imma be so much better next year!”
Given that Maxey is a former recipient of the Most Improved Player award, after his scoring output increased by 5.6 points in the 2023-24 season, taking big steps isn’t a foreign concept for the Sixers’ star.
It’ll be something to keep an eye on over the course of the offseason to see what kind of work Maxey is putting in, as well as how it all translates when the 2026-27 season rolls around.
