Stars and celebrities always show out for the Kentucky Derby, but this year, world-famous gymnast and multiple-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles has an especially important role. She arrived at the event on Saturday alongside her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens.
Biles is reportedly this year’s representative for the iconic "Riders Up!" call—an honorary announcement made just before the horses and jockeys head to the starting gate. Though the race itself lasts only a few minutes, the moment is a major tradition with plenty of buildup.
While she and Owens arrived several hours before the event, Biles took to Instagram to share a post that quickly drew attention. The caption? "brownstable brown gala."
Owens commented, "Love dressing up with you."
The couple was also interviewed just hours before the event, with Biles and Owens stepping out in matching outfits—her in a stunning purple dress and him in a complementary purple suit—after switching up their looks from the Instagram photos they had posted earlier.
"Hi guys, I'm Simone Biles."
"And I'm Jonathan Owens."
"We're at the Kentucky Derby—good luck! Let's go!" the couple said together.
Owens, 29, and Biles, 28, began dating during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and later got married in 2023. The couple has since become one of the biggest power pairs in sports, with their popularity reaching new heights last summer.
