Registration is open for the Missisquoi Paddle-Pedal, set for July 11 in northern Vermont.
The event combines 6.5 miles of paddling on the Missisquoi River with 5 miles of cycling on the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail, according to a community announcement.
Scholarships are available for residents of Franklin and Orleans counties.
The event starts at 8:15 a.m. with a bike drop-off in East Berkshire and participant check-in at Davis Park. A safety talk is scheduled for 9:15 a.m., followed by the start of the race at 9:30 a.m. Most participants are expected to finish within two hours.
Lunch is planned for noon, and an awards ceremony will begin at 12:45 p.m. The event will conclude with cleanup from 1:30 to 2 p.m., according to the announcement.
The Missisquoi Paddle-Pedal offers several categories, including a three-person relay, a two-person relay and a recreational class open to any boat. There are also community team, high school, canoe, kayak, paddleboard, senior/junior and golden class categories.
Participants must be at least 14 years old if no adult is present and must have parental consent if under 18. Coast Guard-approved, over-the-shoulder, correctly sized life jackets are required at all times while on the water.
No alcohol will be allowed in any craft.
The event is also seeking volunteers to assist with race timing, registration and staffing road crossings. Those interested in volunteering can email [email protected] for more information.
