It looked pretty insignificant.

But there was Sidney Crosby, leaving the ice and not returning. It felt at least a little bit like his Olympics injury with Team Canada. This time, it was with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.

It's not good timing for a Crosby injury, one that was confirmed by the Penguins when they announced as the game was still going that Sid the Kid wouldn't return.

It appears Crosby took a hit from Nick Cousins:

Crosby played a single shift in the second period, after that, before exiting the game for good.

The Athletic's Josh Yohe reports that Crosby appeared to be "favoring his right leg."

His Olympics injury was a Grade 2 MCL sprain to his left knee. That kept him out for about a month.

Crosby has 64 points in 61 games this season.

Evgeni Malkin is already out with a hand injury, and the Penguins are just on the border of the playoffs.

“Still have to get some updates,” Penguins coach Dan Muse told reporters postgame. “I’ve got to talk to the staff some more. Lower body. But I don’t have any other update.”

Penguins fans will be hoping for the best. They've already been without Crosby enough.
