Should Texans bench C.J. Stroud? Fans call for backup QB Davis Mills originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

C.J. Stroud is struggling.

And the Houston Texans might be in trouble in New England against the Patriots.

He's already thrown a couple of interceptions, including one ugly duck of a pass that Marcus Jones returned for a touchdown.

Houston can't afford for Stroud to be bad all of Sunday, if that's what is going to happen.

Should Texans bench C.J. Stroud for Davis Mills?

It's a real question.

Mills won three games earlier this year when Stroud was out with a concussion.

He doesn't have the pedigree of Stroud, but he's a reliable backup, at the very least.

The Athletic's Alec Lewis wondered aloud about this:

It doesn't seem like a choice the Texans would make before halftime.

But it feels like the discussion at least occurs, even briefly, in the locker room.

Houston needs to stay out of trouble, and almost every throw Stroud is making is putting the football in danger with the season on the line.
