SEATTLE — In his first game back after a month-long stint on the injured list due to an oblique strain, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh delivered the go-ahead hit to lead his squad to a 3-1 win against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday at T-Mobile Park.

Raleigh hit a two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to bring home left fielder Victor Robles and shortstop Colt Emerson, which resulted in the eventual final of 3-1.

"I felt great," Raleigh said after the game. "I was really, really nervous the first inning there. ... Of course (that situation) happens in the first game back. Fell behind 0-1, I was just trying to get a ball to the outfield. Just got enough of it, kind of worked out. It was a good day."

Robles and Emerson were set up at third and second base, respectively, following a sacrifice bunt laid down by utility player Miles Mastrobuoni.

Mastrobuoni played first base for the Mariners (38-36) on Tuesday due to typical starting first baseman Josh Naylor being down due to a sore wrist.

In addition to Naylor's absence, outfielder Luke Raley was also down due to back tightness and outfielder Randy Arozarena was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a hamstring strain.

"The utility guy is always super important," Seattle manager Dan Wilson said in a postgame interview. "Being able to fill multiple holes (on the team) comes up huge. Tonight, we're banged up, we've got some guys who are nicked up a little bit. And he's able to step in and not only play good defense at first but lay down the key bunt. That's the ball game right there. He lays that bunt down, it kind of sets up the entire inning. That's what you look for from your guys."

Raleigh's go-ahead knock coincided with a solid start from Mariners starting pitcher Logan Gilbert.

Two of Baltimore's three hits came in the first inning. One of those base-hits resulted in the only run of the game for the Orioles.

Baltimore left fielder Taylor Ward hit a lead-off double on the first pitch of the game and moved to third on a groundout from catcher Adley Rutschman. Designated hitter Samuel Basallo hit an RBI single to bring home Ward and give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.

After his 24-pitch first, inning, Gilbert locked in and delivered one of his better outings of the season.

Seattle's starter retired 16 batters in a row after Basallo's RBI single. The 2024 All-Star finished the game with 10 strikeouts, one walk, one hit batter and allowed his one earned run on two hits in seven innings pitched.

Raleigh and Gilbert, who've been battery mates since Single-A, locked in on the latter's four-seam fastball, which reached highs of 98 miles per hour Tuesday.

"After the first couple innings, it looked like Cal really wanted to roll with (the four-seamer)," Gilbert said after the game. "I had a lot of confidence seeing some of those swings. They definitely have some good hitters, it's a good lineup. (The fastball) didn't feel way, way better than normal. It felt good, but I know if I'm getting above the barrel, getting some weak flyouts or swing-and-miss, I notice we got something here."

In between Basallo and Raleigh's respective singles, center fielder Julio Rodriguez hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third to bring home Mastrobuoni to tie the game 1-1.

After Raleigh's two-run single, relievers Eduard Bazardo and Andres Munoz closed the door on Baltimore.

Bazardo and Munoz combined to fan two hitters and allowed just one base runner to reach in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

Munoz earned his 11th save in 16 opportunities this year and had his fastball reach highs of 101 mph.

"I was trying to attack like I always do," Munoz said after the game. "I had a really good conversation before the game (with director of pitching strategy Trent Blank) about things that can help me a little bit more during the outing. And more about breathing stuff just to calm me down ... and have all the energy to be out there and focus on what I have to focus (on) instead of thinking too much."
