SEATTLE — A three-run first inning was all the Seattle Mariners needed to reward a shutout start from starting pitcher Bryan Woo in a 3-0 win against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday at T-Mobile Park.

The victory gave the Mariners the series win over the Orioles.

Seattle is now 39-37 and led the American League West by two games over the Athletics at the time of the game's conclusion.

The Mariners were able to win the series despite outfielders Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez and Luke Raley and first baseman Josh Naylor all missing multiple games of the series. Raley and Arozarena were out for the entire series.

"Yes, we were banged up, no question," Seattle manager Dan Wilson said in a postgame interview Thursday. "We got some injuries and whatnot and we've had some injuries over the last week. But it doesn't do any good to focus on it. It's focusing on winning the series today and we were able to do that."

All of Seattle's runs came in the first inning and with two outs.

With two outs, Naylor, who missed the first two games of the series with a sore ankle, hit a single and advanced to second after a fielding error by Baltimore right fielder Leody Taveras.

Right fielder Dominic Canzone walked on four pitches and was moved to third on an RBI double hit by second baseman Cole Young that brought home Naylor.

With a 1-0 lead and runners on second and third, shortstop Colt Emerson brought home by Young and Canzone with a two-RBI single that resulted in the eventual final of 3-0.

Emerson finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk Thursday. His two-RBI knock came a day after arguably his worst game in the major leagues in a 5-3 loss to the Orioles.

Emerson finished Wednesday's loss 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

"Baseball's hard," Emerson said after the game. "This is the big leagues, I'm 20-years-old. The biggest thing to do is just forget about yesterday and move on. (Baltimore starter Kyle Bradish) is a good pitcher. Everybody's a good pitcher. We don't stop fighting and I'm gonna stay stubborn to my approach and I'm gonna give it my all everyday."

Young and Emerson's respective hits resulted in all the runs needed to support Woo, who pitched a masterclass Thursday.

The 2025 All-Star struck out nine batters, issued one walk and allowed three hits in seven inning of work.

Woo's seven-inning quality start represented a bounce-back after he allowed 12 combined earned runs in his last two outings. He allowed seven earned runs in his most recent start, which came against Baltimore on June 11 at Camden Yards in Baltimore.

The 26-year-old starter utilized his entire five-pitch arsenal in the win and recorded five strikeouts with his four-seam fastball, two with his slider and two with his sweeper.

"You always have belief in what you're good at," Woo said in a postgame interview. "But as you work and train over the years and you get better at other things, you want to continue to build confidence in (your secondary pitches), as well. It's not losing the core of what I am. But I think, more than just the fastballs, the core of who I am is just attacking the zone with whatever pitches I'm using. Looking at more from that way as opposed to 'I'm a guy with two good fastballs' and always relying on those."

Woo's quality start ended in the eighth inning after surrendering a double and issuing an eight-pitch walk with no outs.

Mariners reliever Eduard Bazardo took over in the eighth and got the three outs and capped off the frame with a strikeout looking against Orioles left fielder Taylor Ward.

Closer Andres Munoz took over in the ninth, preserved the shutout and earned his 12th save of the season in the process.

Seattle will look to win its second-straight series, starting with the first of a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox at 7:10 p.m. PT on Friday at T-Mobile Park.

Bryce Miller will start for the Mariners and Ranger Suarez will start for the Red Sox.
