The Cardinals are looking for their home run back. Shonn Greene (5'11", 227) very well could be the answer.

He is a between the tackles type back who was a producer through and through. But the critics shout he is a one-year wonder. Greene doesn't let it bother him.

"I don’t feel disrespected," Greene said. "People will say what they will say. But myself, I go off the numbers. I had 100 yards every game. But that’s why we are here [combine], to prove we are the best we can be."

Greene impressed Arizona. He is expected to visit the Arizona Cardinals next week, Scout.com has confirmed.

The powerfully built back is coming off of a very strong Pro Day last month in front of scouts and is projected to go off the board in round two of this month's NFL draft.

For some teams, Greene may not mean go. A red flag is his age. "[Age] could be a factor for some people, but I don't look at it as a risk or anything like that," Greene said. "I'm going to be 24, so it is what it is. I only started for one full season, so I don't have that much wear and tear on me."

A back in round two would allow the Cardinals to go after a top center, outside.

He did have a good pro day.

Iowa Pro day: Speaking to scouts who attended the recent Pro Days at Iowa (yesterday) and Connecticut (today), it is obvious that running backs Shonn Greene and Donald Brown are moving up the board at precisely the right time. Greene struggled a bit at the Combine and needed a strong performance at the Iowa Pro Day to rescue his stock. While in Indianapolis, the 5-10, 227 pounder was timed at 4.62 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He dropped a tenth of a second from that time Tuesday, clocking in at 4.50-4.55 seconds according to scouts in attendance. Greene, who measured in again at 227 pounds, also increased his vertical jump from 37 to 39" inches, showing more explosiveness than many have given him credit for. I am not as high on either back as some seem to be. I believe that both backs are significantly lesser prospects than Georgia's Knowshon Moreno and Ohio State's Chris "Beanie" Wells. However, with more and more teams looking for a rotational system at running back, it would not be a surprise to see either back slip into the late portion of the first round. - Rob Rang, The SportsXchange, NFLDraftScout.com

More on his pro day:

Former Iowa running back Shonn Greene wowed NFL scouts at Iowa's Pro Day on Monday. Greene, a consensus All-American last fall, ran a 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds at Iowa's indoor facility. That's about .06 seconds below his time at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis last month. It could also send him up the draft charts as well. Scouts from at least 29 NFL teams attended Iowa's Pro Day and three different NFL scouts — all of whom spoke anonymously — were excited about Greene's performance. Along with lowering his speed, Greene increased his 225-pound bench press repetitions from 19 at the combine to 23 on Monday. "He looked good," one scout said. "Very good." Greene, 23, is projected as a late second-round to early third-round draft choice. Many draft predictions have Greene ranked as about the fifth running back slated for the draft. That has Greene somewhat agitated. "My take on that is I think (Ohio State's) Beanie Wells and (Georgia's) Knoshown Moreno. I think (they) are great backs, they just had another year whereas I had only had one year to show what I could do," Green said. "Ohio State gets a lot of publicity but I don't make that as an excuse. I just do what I can do. "If you look at the stats and all that, it will tell you that I'm the top back. You look at some of those guys that I went head-to-head with and some of them I faced the same defense, and I did much better. I'm not worried about that. Whoever takes me is going to get a good running back. That's how it goes." Greene said he uses some of the draft projections as motivation. "It just makes you work harder," he said. - Scott Dochterman, The Gazette Online

I think Green could be there when we pick on the second round. It would be interesting teaming him with Hightower. Tim H is 6 ft 216 lbs while Green is 5 ft 11" 227 lbs. Jason Wright is 5' 10 " 215 lbs. While we would not have the speed back that some feel we need we certainly would have the big backs for a grind it out ground game. Of course we could also get a speed back like Sheets on a later round.

TH is plenty fast. He may not be blazing, but he showed that he can break big plays.

Greene will be IMO a very productive back. Great vision, hard to bring down. He would give us everything we need in a running game IMO. Nothing wrong with a pounding running game.

Actually Greene would be an excellent replacement for E. James.

If this guy is so hot why would he be there when we pick? I know little about him.

Having a RB that can CONSISTENTLY pound it for 3 to 4 yds would be a great benefit for our offense. If we're sitting at 2 and 7 or 3rd and 3 it will give the opposing D fits. They would have to decide whether or not to keep another guy in the box and with the way Warner can read defenses we would be very hard to stop. I would be okay with Greene as our second pick.

Because he's 24, has bad hands and is a piss poor pass protector.

He can run the ball.....but that's about it.

John - There are those RB's who are all-around "hot" and those who possess one or two skills that fill a need.

Don't be misled by the headline referring to "Home Run Threat." Greene is primarily a between the tackles thumper and (should we not wind up keeping Edge) would replace that hole in our RB roster.

Not that a big RB can't occasionally break one long. But if you were to draw a comparison with, say Jonathon Stewart (also a big back but with a little more long-distance speed) I don't think Greene is as fast as Stewart.

He'd be a nice fit if we landed him with our second pick but would represent a reach at #31.

1 year starter = JOKE

So what if he got lucky one year...with probably a GREAT O LINE.

I want a player who's been working at the position since Pee Wee football. Not some 1 year starter.

I'm with Big Deal - PASS

Typical Big Ten back if you ask me. He can run straight ahead with power but outside of that his game is pretty limited.

Iwebema proves that we have an ear on the ground in Iowa. One of our coaches probably loves him.

And we seem to love Big 10 Players. If he was from Michigan......... lol

Since I follow IOWA....

I saw alot of Greene this past season. I didn't see break-away speed but I saw a guy who was elusive and capable of getting the tough yards. I think he's a "reach" in the 1st but a quality pick in the 2nd. One other thing. I saw him take some vicious hits, come out of the game, and then go right back in and be effective. Kids' got heart!

Agree. I like him very much and if he is around in second round...great...go for the C or 3/4 LB in round 1. However can't pass on Moreno in round 1 and hope the kid from Richmond or Wood his around in the second round.

I certainly don't hope anyone is looking at RB S Greene in Rd #1. I may trade up to get him in Rd #2
