Shanksville-Stonycreek senior Katie Lisbon did not intend to play collegiate soccer. However, a trip to Garrett College and a conversation with head women's coach Zach Ward altered her plans.
Lisbon announced her intentions to attend and play soccer for the JUCO program, Thursday, March 12.
"I am looking forward to meeting some new people, getting familiar with the area and getting to play with some different teammates," said Lisbon. "Garrett has an illustration program, and that is what I am going to school for. Not many places offer that. Even though I did not plan on playing soccer, the coach reached out to me about it, and I looked into it. I like that they have the program I want and I can play soccer as well."

Heading to The Mount Berlin Brothersvalley senior headed to Mount Aloysius for volleyball
Lisbon, who competes in a co-op with Berlin Brothersvalley, has evolved over the years with the Mountaineers. She did not register a point as a freshman. She finished her career with six goals and nine assists. Lisbon credits Berlin coach Turner Paul for the change.
"After my freshman season, Turner helped shape me to be a better player," Lisbon said. "In college I'm looking forward to work with new teammates and utilize some good passing to score more goals. I think I am pretty fast, so as long as I can weave around the players, I can score more."
Paul saw the impact Lisbon made on the program.
Offensively, Katie is very quick, with a powerful shot and reads the game well after years of experience," Paul said. "Katie has also been an excellent leader and mentor to the underclassmen on our team the past few years. Garrett College is getting someone who has an outstanding work ethic and is very dedicated to soccer and her teammates."
Lisbon has a 3.5 GPA at Shanksville-Stonycreek. She has been playing soccer since age five. It is a sport that has always been a part of Lisbon's life and will be for at least two more years with the Lakers.
She thanks her parents, Michael Lisbon and Rebecca Walker, and Coach Paul for everything they have done for her.
