The Boston Celtics are planning to sign two way guard Max Shulga to a full roster spot for the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA regular season and the 2026-27 regular season per recent reporting from ESPN senior reporter Shams Charania. The Ukrainian floor general was drafted by the Celtics with the No. 57 overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft, and has spent most of his time on the court this season with the Maine Celtics in the G League.
There, the Kyiv native has averaged 16.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 43.8% from the floor overall, 69.6% from the free throw line, and 39.6% from deep at the G League level. He has also appeared in a total of four games with Boston at the NBA level, but has yet to put up counting stats in the NBA with an average of just 1.5 minutes per game in garbage time scenarios.
The signing will aid the Celtics remain above the roster size limits set by the league with the move while also staying below the luxury tax.
This will help Boston reset the repeater tax moving forward if they can go two seasons under that level of spending, and make fielding a true title contender more fiscally realistic after the team reverts to a non-repeater status.
