Reigning two-time NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sent a clear message about the San Antonio Spurs after they bested his Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games in the Western Conference finals this year.

The message? The Spurs are good enough to win an NBA championship this year.

"They're young, they're talented, well-coached, play the right way, play together, seems like they like each other," Gilgeous-Alexander said of the Spurs. "They have the makeup for sure. You don't beat us without the makeup, and we're here. They got the makeup to go get [a championship]."

As the reigning NBA Finals MVP, Gilgeous-Alexander knows what it takes to win at the highest level in the league, so his opinion about the Spurs' ability to do so should hold a little extra weight.

Meanwhile, the Thunder plan to use the loss to San Antonio as a lesson and impetus to get better over the offseason.

"We just have to take it one day at a time from here on out," Gilgeous-Alexander said of the Thunder. "Try to get better this summer, be a better team than we were this season and last season, and try to get over the hump."

The good news for basketball fans is that the core of both the Spurs and Thunder is very young, so the two teams could be battling in the playoffs as a rivalry for the next decade-plus. The first series between them certainly lived up to the hype.
