The best part is that SF's new GM is also their O-line coach. How could you tell from their first two picks?
I was worried SF wold take Dez Bryant and team him with Crabtree to give them a pretty nice young recieving corp. If i was SF, I would have taken Bryant and Clausen. Get some offense to go with a pretty decent defense. They could get an OT in round 2 that will be every bit as good at Davis. I still think Charles Brown will turn out to be the best OT down the road.
I feel pretty good about our draft. Theres some questions but we filled our biggest holes I believe.
You guys had a pretty decent draft yourselves, its going to be an interesting season.

I know as a Arizona fan thats what you want to believe, but as a niner fan Im inclined to believe the opp. I feel we drafted players that immediatley make us better on offense. We have a solid left tackle in Joe staley and a good center in hietman. Our RG Rachal was markedly improved towards the end of last year. Now its kinda wait and see. BUUUUT whenever NFL scouts deem a gaurd worthy of the first round( which isnt often) then you know that guy is a player. Davis is young with tremendous upside.Just because you draft 2 offensive linemen in the first 32 picks, doesn't automatically mean that you now have a quality offensive line......see Cardinals 1993. (If only we would have taken Willie Roaf, and Will Shields instead)

I'm not concerned with any of these picks; mainly because I don't believe in SF's ability to develop players. Guys like Manny Lawson and Davis took more years to become good players under this coaching staff.
Also the trade up was entirely unnecessary, Davis most definitely would've been available at their pick. It's a rookie, desperate mistake. I'm glad that our team is smart enough to realize that value is important, and even if your top position is not filled it's more important to get a good player at every spot. Obviously the Cards had a lot more to worry about, since we were picking so late. But we stayed true to the BPAPN (Best player available at a position of need) and drafted Williams.
I may be in the minority, but if I were SF, I would've traded DOWN and taken Roger Saffold, a guy who played in a better conference and is a hard worker. SF could still use more picks NOT less.

If you go back & do some research, you will find a multitude of 1st round O-linemen that were busts in the NFL. Just because NFL scouts deem an O-linemen is worthy of a 1st round selection, DOES NOT mean the guy is a player.

Alex Barron & Kwame Harris agree.![]()
I understand that. Im just being optimistic. Maybe to much so, but the fact remains that gaurds drafted in the frist round have a much higher chance disproportionatley of being good players in the NFL .
