The best part is that SF's new GM is also their O-line coach. How could you tell from their first two picks? :)

I was worried SF wold take Dez Bryant and team him with Crabtree to give them a pretty nice young recieving corp. If i was SF, I would have taken Bryant and Clausen. Get some offense to go with a pretty decent defense. They could get an OT in round 2 that will be every bit as good at Davis. I still think Charles Brown will turn out to be the best OT down the road.

That was my biggest fear!!!!! I was NERVOUS! Having Crabtree and Dez running around.....ugh! When they took Mike...I was fine with it....just my #1 concern was NOT GETTING DEZ!

I feel pretty good about our draft. Theres some questions but we filled our biggest holes I believe.

You guys had a pretty decent draft yourselves, its going to be an interesting season.

IMO the entire division had a good draft. Guess that we'll find out in a couple of years. I'm all for everyone in our division getting better as long as we keep winning the division.

Just because you draft 2 offensive linemen in the first 32 picks, doesn't automatically mean that you now have a quality offensive line......see Cardinals 1993. (If only we would have taken Willie Roaf, and Will Shields instead)

I know as a Arizona fan thats what you want to believe, but as a niner fan Im inclined to believe the opp. I feel we drafted players that immediatley make us better on offense. We have a solid left tackle in Joe staley and a good center in hietman. Our RG Rachal was markedly improved towards the end of last year. Now its kinda wait and see. BUUUUT whenever NFL scouts deem a gaurd worthy of the first round( which isnt often) then you know that guy is a player. Davis is young with tremendous upside.

Having said that I hope you understand why I feel differently than yourself

I'm not concerned with any of these picks; mainly because I don't believe in SF's ability to develop players. Guys like Manny Lawson and Davis took more years to become good players under this coaching staff.

Also the trade up was entirely unnecessary, Davis most definitely would've been available at their pick. It's a rookie, desperate mistake. I'm glad that our team is smart enough to realize that value is important, and even if your top position is not filled it's more important to get a good player at every spot. Obviously the Cards had a lot more to worry about, since we were picking so late. But we stayed true to the BPAPN (Best player available at a position of need) and drafted Williams.

I may be in the minority, but if I were SF, I would've traded DOWN and taken Roger Saffold, a guy who played in a better conference and is a hard worker. SF could still use more picks NOT less.

Well your right about one thing....your in the minority. I dont say that to be insulting but its true. Ill tell you why your wrong. I was at the 49er draft party in santa clara and right after we traded up I was mad. Why trade up for a guy when the two teams in front us clearly didnt want him? Many around me agreed. But after seeing that not only DEN traded down but so did MIA, well that made me start to change my mind.

Then singletary came out and spoke and explained that dallas and GB both where looking to trade up and grab Davis, it made sense.

It made even more sense when buluga fell all the way to GB. And if you knew the niners at all you then knew that we lost our RT in the offseason. If we didnt get a solid RT we where doomed for another season of mediocrity. We didnt gamble, we didnt wait and see, we got aggresive(see singletary) and grabbed what we needed the most for a relatively low cost.

Cheers,

If you go back & do some research, you will find a multitude of 1st round O-linemen that were busts in the NFL. Just because NFL scouts deem an O-linemen is worthy of a 1st round selection, DOES NOT mean the guy is a player.

Hahahaha

I understand that. Im just being optimistic. Maybe to much so, but the fact remains that gaurds drafted in the frist round have a much higher chance disproportionatley of being good players in the NFL .

Let me just say that every player drafted has question marks and every position has an example of a player that didnt pan out.

Im just saying that we filled the holes we had with the best player available. We didnt pull a broncos!

No probs. If you continue to post as you have been doing you will be quite welcome here. Ronin, a 49ers fan, is a welcome regular here as are a few Rams and a few Seahawks fans. Hell, we even got us some Cowboys fans. When you see people talking s**t about the 9ers to a poster named gohard83, don't get drawn into it. He talks alot of smack so he gets it back.

I appreciate it and I know that theres alot of fans on both sides of the aisle that are idiots but i decided not to tear into them quite yet. Niner fan or Card fan Ill tell it like it is, I just dont want to offend all by coming off like a jerk. Im a passionate bay area resident that lives in raider country and breaths forty niner football. Im looking forward to this season because I think this is our year.
