With the writing on the wall since their NBA playoff exit, the Oklahoma City Thunder said goodbye to a longtime starter. They traded Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal that netted them three future second-round picks.
This is the third — and likely last — cost-cutting move the Thunder have made this offseason. They also sent Aaron Wiggins to the Hawks and Isaiah Joe to the Detroit Pistons. With those three gone, OKC is now underneath the dreadful second apron and trims its tax penalties.
Of course, Thunder fans don't want to hear how much money ownership saved. Instead, they're lamenting Dort's inevitable departure. The 27-year-old is one of OKC's best developmental stories ever. He went from an undrafted rookie to a one-time All-Defense member and NBA champion.
