While the New England Patriots played very well last season, losing in the Super Bowl during what wasn't expected to be a great year, there were a few players who didn't play up to the standards that the organization was hoping for. One guy in particular who didn't do that was Will Campbell.
Campbell, who the Patriots selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, showed some promise at times but also struggled.
It's not crazy for a 21-year-old to come into the league and struggle, but now, a year older and in his second season, there's hope that he can be a lot better than he was during his rookie campaign. According to a veteran Patriots defensive lineman, he's noticed that Campbell has gotten a lot better since he played against him with the Baltimore Ravens a year ago.
“Will has definitely gotten better from the last time I played him last year during the game,” Dre’Mont Jones said, per the Boston Herald. “He’s definitely watched a lot of film and honed in his technique even more. It’s fun to watch, and it’s fun to compete with him every day.”
Many fans grew frustrated with Campbell at times last season, and considering the Patriots were one of the better teams in the NFL, there's some sense as to why. However, it's best to remember that the Patriots weren't supposed to be great, and the hope was that guys like Campbell would eventually develop into good players.
Hopefully, that will be sooner rather than later, as New England looks to win the Super Bowl this time around.
