Though the Milwaukee Brewers didn't win Wednesday, May 13, Jacob Misiorowski delivered yet another remarkable start, working seven innings and allowing no runs, no walks and four hits, while striking out 10.

He has a 2.12 ERA in nine starts, and his 80 strikeouts lead all of baseball.

But his incredible performance doesn't stop there. Consider these nuggets:

Misiorowski just set the record for most 100-mph pitches in a game

Misiorowski's 49 pitches in excess of 100 mph on May 13 marked a new best for any pitcher, two better than the 47 tossed by Cincinnati's Hunter Greene in 2022.

The idea of throwing 100 mph isn't new, but sustaining that velocity through the course of the game is what makes Misiorowski so unusual.

By the way, he's thrown 233 pitches at 100-mph-plus this year. The rest of the starting pitchers in baseball combined? They have 144.

Misiorowski has thrown the 89 fastest pitches for a starter in the big leagues this year

You have to scroll down that list a long time before you get to someone other than Misiorowski, where Bubba Chandler's 101.3-mph pitch ranks 90th.

Misiorowski has thrown more 102-mph-plus pitches than anyone before – and more 103-mph pitches, too

According to MLB stats guru Sarah Langs, his 55 career pitches thrown of 102 mph or faster are far and away the most by a starter in the history of pitch tracking, with Greene next at 12.So again, while 100-mph velocity is more common than ever before, throwing 102 mph is another level.

Throwing 103? Yeah, he's on his own there, too. Langs said the 13 he's thrown are more than any other starter by a longshot. Jordan Hicks is second, with two.

Misiorowski gets more swings and misses than anyone on his fastball – maybe ever?

Batters are whiffing – swinging and missing – at Misiorowski's fastball on 45.6% of swings, easily first in the league among those who have thrown at least 100 fastballs. The next highest by a starting pitcher is 36.5%.

Over the course of a full season (500 fastballs minimum), the highest single-season fastball whiff rate for a starter is 37.6% by Gerrit Cole in 2019.

When Misiorowski's fastball hits 100 mph or faster, opponents have a 50% whiff rate and are slugging just .143.

Misiorowski sustains velocity unlike anyone who's come before him

According to another MLB stats guru, Mike Petriello, Misiorowski has thrown 39% of his fastballs at 100 mph or more in his career, while the overall average for MLB starting pitchers is 0.1% of pitches (since 2008).

The next-highest rate for a standard starting pitcher (not a reliever who serves as "opener") is 17% by Greene, then Pittsburgh's Bubba Chandler with 14%. No other pitcher is over 10%.

"Pretty likely we're seeing the hardest-throwing SP ever, right now," Petriello said.

While it's true Nolan Ryan and other pitchers who pre-date Statcast will always have a claim to similar accomplishment, there just isn't enough high-tech data from those games to support that idea.

Misiorowski's under control, too … and he's better against lefties?

Misiorowski leads Major League Baseball in both K% (percent of batters who strike out) at 39.6% and K/BB ratio (strikeouts to walks) with 80 punchouts to just 17 walks. Somehow, he's even better against left-handers, with a 46% strikeout rate. He actually has the lowest left-handed-hitter average-against of any qualified starter in the big leagues (.125).

Misiorowski hasn't allowed any extra-base hits lately, doing something that hasn't been done since 1969

Misiorowski also hasn't allowed an extra-base hit to any right-handed hitter in a month, the last was April 14. He hasn't allowed any extra-base hits over the past 92 batters, the last by Kyle Stowers of Miami on April 19.

He's the first pitcher since Joe Coleman in 1969 to have four straight games of eight strikeouts and no extra-base hits allowed.
